Illini Powerlifting used to have several small lifting squads with fairly static schedules. Now schedules seem to be rather dynamic with people lifting in different squads different days of the week. However, lifters can generally be divided into two groups: those that lift in Kenney and those that lift at IMPE.
Most of the undergraduates lift at IMPE, and that is where the competition level bench, deadlift platform and squat cage are located. If you are a student, you have free access to IMPE. This is a great opportunity, and I recommend people with access to IMPE to at least lift there occasionally for the Forza equipment. Generally, there is someone from ILPL lifting there every weekday from 5–7 p.m. For more detailed IMPE scheduling, e-mail laramie.mcmasters@illinipowerlifting.org.
For us old farts and employees who don't get free IMPE access, Kenney Gym is free. Also, this gym is on the north end of the campus and appeals to many engineering graduate students. Lastly, if you like dingy 1940's era Rocky style gyms, this is the place for you! Kenney has very limited hours, but there is generally an ILPL member working out there every weekday from 11–1 p.m. Since all of our schedules are fairly dynamic, we have an on ongoing post on the bulletin board where we update our schedules weekly.
If none of these times work for you, e-mail president@illinipowerlifting.org and we'll hook you up with some workout partners! There's enough of us that we are sure we can find some experienced workout partners and spotters with complimentary schedules.
